December birthdays can get passed over and under-celebrated quite easily.
Everyone is busy with all the extras of the holidays. My husband has a bit of a pleaser personality and gets super stressed trying to find the perfect present for me and he has not one, but two occasions to shop for my gifts. I think he could consider himself fortunate that he only has to stress out once a year. Actually, he doesn’t have to stress at all, but I’m not coaching him here.
One year for my birthday I wanted a new coat. He had no intention of trying to choose one, so we went out together to shop and make the purchase. That began our annual birthday/Christmas shopping event. It solved at least my birthday gift part of his issue and we check off many items on our Christmas shopping list, too. Beyond that, we enjoy the whole day together, starting with breakfast out and plotting our course for the day.
Yesterday was that day for us.
I look forward to that time together whether or not it falls on my exact birthdate. We have a good time, but I REALLY noticed something yesterday.
We laughed all day! I laughed all day!
There were so many little silly things and conversations that simply brought me joy.
At the end of the day I mentioned it to my husband that two years prior that wouldn’t have been the case. I enjoyed the day even then, but I had lost my laughter…I had lost joy.
That was before life coaching. That was before I bumped into the questions of what my top three feelings were and what I wanted them to be. My top three daily feelings were unsatisfied, frustrated and sad. I wanted them to be contentment, excited and joy.
I am living a more beautiful life now.
Yes, I still have difficult circumstances that come to me. Yes, I still have negative emotions surrounding those things and most of the time they are very appropriate for the situation. The difference now is I own those feelings. They are mine to choose to feel and then change if I desire. I do not give that power away to anyone or anything else. I am living well in that. I am content. I am excited about my life and joy bubbles over in laughter…a lot! And you know what? I LOVE laughing!
If I could give you a gift this year, it would be for you to discover how you can live beautifully, too. And here’s the thing, I know how to help you do just that!!
