The other day I saw an ad that said,
“See the world better in new glasses.”
I personally benefit from the vision corrections that glasses and contacts allow me. I couldn’t begin to read what I am presently writing without bumping up the font size substantially without those corrections. I have a bit of distance adjustment now, too, so I have to admit my glasses help me in one context to “see the world better”.
What I immediately thought when I read the ad, though, was,
“Wouldn’t it be awesome if new glasses helped us see the world not just better, but in a better light?”
You don’t have to look far to see that we live in a troubled age, and glasses alone will not help us to see it “better” or change the reality of what it is.
At the same time perspective or how we think about it changes everything. At least that is what I think, but it doesn’t matter much what I think. Stay with me for a minute…
I am not saying that what I think doesn’t matter or that my opinion is invalid.
I am saying that what I think doesn’t matter all that much… to you.
Now it sounds like I don’t think you care what I think.
That is not what I am saying, either.
I am saying that MY thinking is essential for MY life and how I see the world.
YOUR thinking is essential for YOUR life and how YOU see the world.
So if you want to see the world better or that is “in a better light”, YOU have to think differently about it.
Chris Pine says it this way…“The only thing you sometimes have control over is perspective. You don’t have control over your situation. But you have a choice about how you view it.”
Sometimes we just need a little help seeing our way to a beautiful life and having a change in perspective.
